Distance education is on the rise in seminaries

Distance learning is a rising trend in theological education.  I write as one who started the seminary journey through the University of Dubuque’s distance MDiv program.  In fact, I was the first student to be accepted into the program! Being able to take advantage of this UDTS’ program allowed me to continue working full-time, maintain my church commitments, and start seminary in an accredited program at a PCUSA seminary.

I think distance theological education is here to stay! It offers many advantages for the church by making a quality seminary education available to those who were previously hindered by location and pairing the educational process with the nurturing of the sending church community.
How do YOU think distance learning will shape the future of the church?
